The Kibo hut are found on the Kibo cone like the name suggests. The camp has both structures for hiker and a camping ground for those that want to pitch their tents.
The Kibo huts are usually commonly used by the trekkers who are using the Marangu trail and Rongai trail.
Kibo huts are frequently used by hikers using the Rongai Route and the Marangu Route before the last day to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.
The camp is found on the east side of the Kibo peak of the Kilimanjaro.
The biggest advantage of the Kibo huts camp is that it has housing that is more like the lodges.
The hikers on the other routes like the Rongai however will only not rely on their tents while here unless they want to as most of the camps they visit require tents.
Facilities
This camp is build like a dorm and it has a dining hall just like the previous camp. The camp also has houses mad out of stone. Each dorm ha bank beds and can house about 6 to 8 people.
The camp can accommodate up to 60 people every night.
This camp has different housing for the porters and other members of the teams. Unlike most of the other camps, the kibo huts have self contained rooms with bathrooms and toilets.
There are also provisional pit latrines that you can use when there is no water and the toilets are not running.
Location
The Kibo huts camp is located in the Alpine vegetation region of the Kilimanjaro. This region is a bit hot and there is barely any rain fall. The region however receives some snow every once in a while.
The temperature is extremely cold during the night due to the influence of the snow at the top and the temperature is hot during the day. The rays are hot and there is no cover since there is no vegetation here.
The oxygen levels are also low. You are advised to have your sun screen on for you own protection.
This camp is always quiet as most people here are filled with the anxiety of hiking to the summit the next day. There are also no animals here as the conditions are harsh for any animals or plants to survive here.
You will also not have any insects and mosquitoes. This is the last point you will find huge rock, the rest of the way will have small rocks which are also known as Scree.
