The Rombo district in the Kilimanjaro Region is home to the Northern portion of the Kilimanjaro National Park. The small communities of Tarakea and Usseri are located on the eastern side of this area of the national park.

The nearby district is the Monduli districts. The sector is about 120 kilometers from the major town of Moshi. There is a wildlife stretch here that allows the movement of wildlife from the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania to the Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
The sector is bordered by North Kilimanjaro Forest Plantation. Some of the rivers that flow in this sector are: Kimengelia, Nalemuru, Kikelelwa, Tarakea, Kamwanga and Lolarashi.

The mountain basically has very many rodents and the most notable one being the Four-Striped Mouse. Other notable wildlife is the African bush Elephants, grey duikers, blue monkeys and the Black and white colubus monkeys.
