The southern sector of the Kilimanjaro is not popular among the hikers and visitors of the Kilimanjaro and it has very little traffic. The southern sector however is home to about four gates of the Kilimanjaro National Park.
The gates in this sector include: Machame gate, Umbwe gate, Mweka gate and Marangu gate which also houses the Park headquarters.

The mountain has very many rodents and the most notable one being the Four-Striped Mouse. Other notable wildlife is the African bush Elephants, grey duikers, blue monkeys and the Black and white colubus monkeys.
You will rarely find all this wildlife on the trail since they are shy more so the snake species on the Kilimanjaro.
