Lemosho is one of the most beautiful routes on the mountain with breathtaking views. It ascends Kilimanjaro from the West just like the Shira route.
The first part of the route experiences low traffic until the point where it meets the Machame route. It is one of the newer Kilimanjaro routes with a high summit success rate because it provides room for acclimatization.
This route is highly recommended to all travelers, the first timers, the novice and the experienced.
The distance of Lemosho route is 70 km and it takes you through lush rain-forests, a hike across the Shira plateau, alpine deserts and ice-fields. The ascent starts from Londorossi gate in the West and descends via the Mweka route in the South.
Your 8 days on Lemosho route:
- Day 1: Arrive at Londorossi gate and hike to Mti Mkubwa (2,250 – 2,780m)
- Day 2: Hike from Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 camp (2,780 – 3,500m)
- Day 3: Hike from Shira 1 camp to Shira camp 2 (3,500 – 3,900m)
- Day 4: Hike from Shira camp 2 to Barranco camp (3,900 – 3,960m)
- Day 5: Hike from Barranco camp to Karanga camp (3,960 – 4,035m)
- Day 6: Hike from Karanga camp to Barafu camp (4,035 – 4,640m)
- Day 7: Summit Day; Hike from Barafu camp to Uhuru peak-summit (4,640 – 5,895m), Descend from Uhuru peak to Mweka camp (5,895 – 3,080m)
- Day 8: Descend from Mweka camp to Mweka gate (3,068 – 1,630m)
