The best Sun-downer Spots on Kilimanjaro
Many people will hike the Kilimanjaro with curiosity to see how the views from the tallest mountain in Africa different from those from a lower altitude. There are many camps on the Kilimanjaro but the two with the best sunset and sunrise views are the Karanga Camp and the Shira Camp 2.
You will get to watch the dawn on the morning of your Kilimanjaro climb, even if you choose not to use the two camps mentioned above. On the last day, you will set out on the hike at midnight.

The Shira 2 camp is located along the Lemosho Trail and the Shira route. As you ascend towards the summit along these trails, this is the third route you will encounter and you can rst here or spend a night here depending on your itinerary. The camp gets its name from the famous Shira Plateau and it also has a resemblance in name wit he previous camp site (Shira 1 camp site)
Best sunrise and sunset: Karanga Camp
The Karanga Hut Camp derives its names from the Karanga Valley. The camp is used but hikers that use the Shira, Umbwe, Lemosho and Umbwe trails as they hike to the summit of the Kilimanjaro. This camp is more like a resting point and a re-energizing point for some itineraries.
Nonetheless, this is an overnight stop on some itineraries. Barranco Huts Camp is the one in front, while Barafu Hut Camp is the one in front.
This area lacks huts or cabins. You will need to bring your own tent, which you can set up wherever it is most comfortable for you. It is assumed that you will use the pit latrine as there are no restrooms available. The administrative offices are located on the trail used by rangers.
Location
The camp is located at the edge of the Karanga Valley. This is in the southern part of the Kibo Cone. It is at the edge of the moorland vegetation zone of the Kilimanjaro. While hiking to the Kilimanjaro via the Karanga Camp, you will also go through the Karanga valley.
The camp is surrounded by vegetation and it receives a good amount of rain fall. The area is however a little humid. The camp is near the Barafu huts camp.
