Explore Machame Village – Gateway to Kilimanjaro & Cultural Hub

The Machame Village is one of the gateways to the Kilimanjaro Mountain. It is located on the southern slopes of the Kilimanjaro. You can explore this village before or after your Kilimanjaro hike.

The locals here are mostly farmers and you will meet a lot of banana and coffee plantations. This is where the popular Machame route of the Kilimanjaro starts from

Machame Gate

This is another famous entry route of the Kilimanjaro National Park. It is allocated at the base on the southern part of the Kilimanjaro Mountain.

Just Like the other gates, the Machame gate has park administration offices where all official park activities related to the park are done like the registration.

Everyone entering the park must register in order to maintain track of their journey and account for every life—it’s not simply a formality.

Hikers are not permitted to descend via this route; it is exclusively intended for ascents. It will be expected of you to exit the mountain through a different gate.

As a result, you must organize for the transfer of all the property you leave at the base to the location from which you will descend.

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

The gate is at an elevation of about 1,640 meters above sea level while the camp is 2,835 meters above sea level which is about 7 miles and can take about 7 hours of hiking.

Moshi Town to Machame gate

The gate is approximately 30 kilometers from the town of Moshi and can take about 45 minutes since the road is well done.
