The woodland camp is another name for the Mti Mkubwa Camp, which is often translated as the Big Tree Camp. Situated on Kilimanjaro Mountain, the Camp is accessible via the Lemosho Climbing trail. This is a place where you can camp for the night.
The term Mti Mkubwa, which translates to “big tree” in Kiswahili, is where the camp gets its name. The trees that comprise the tropical rain forest around the site.
This camp is the first accommodation you will meet from the base as you hike using the Lemosho trail. The can is located in the forested vegetation zone of the Kilimanjaro Mountain.
At this level, there are plenty of Lobelias, enormous groundsels, vibrant red pokers, and Senecios trees to be seen. Rainfall primarily falls on this part of the mountain through the mist that typically obscures the landscape. Naturally, the temperature will be below zero here.
Big Tree Camp, also known as Mti Mkubwa Camp, gets its name from the large tree that shelters the camp. The sounds of birdsong and monkeys playing in the forest canopy permeate the camp.
This camp is just for hikers going up Kilimanjaro; it cannot be utilized on the way down. The descent route for hikers taking this route will be different.
Like most camps on the Kilimanjaro, this camp also uses tents as the only form of accommodation. There are no permanent structures and hikers will be expected to carry their own camping gear that they can mount in the camping area.
There is a semi permanent hut which is meant for the ranger and also doubles as the office. The camp does not have toilets but pit latrines.

The Camp is generally situated in the center of Kilimanjaro’s tropical forest. Three hours is how long it takes from the Londorosi gate. Here, the campsite is situated close to the valley as well.
As this is a forested region, you will note that trees were cut down to make room for the camp site. It is encircled by numerous enormous trees. Situated to the northwest of Kilimanjaro Mountain lies the Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Due to the low traffic on the route where the camp is located, there is little traffic. Few hikers are interested in the northern routes. These same causes also contribute to the camp’s relative small size.
The fact that it is located in the middle of the tropical rain forest, the camp receives a lot of rain fall and winds. The winds are blocked by the trees and that’s why the effect will be minimized.
