Mweka Camp on Kilimanjaro – Your Resting Point Before the Final Descent

As its name implies, this camp is situated along the Mweka route. It is also known as the Mweka Hut Camp or the Mweka Camp. Since the Mweka path is only for descent, it serves as lodging for hikers leaving the Kilimanjaro Mountains.

The last camp before you descend Kilimanjaro is this one. About five of the seven paths on the Northern circuit use the Mweka camp.

The Umbwe, Machame, Lemosh, and Shira trails are a some of these paths.

Due to its proximity to the Mweka gate, which most hikers descending Kilimanjaro use to escape, this camp is preferred by most of them.

The Millennium Camp Site is the other option on the northern circuit routes, however it is a little farther; if one is not tired, they can choose this.

In contrast, this campsite is smaller and farther from the departure gate if you are traveling with a large company.

Mweka Camp Facilities

This place lacks a permanent building. Consequently, there aren’t any huts or cabins here. It will be necessary for you to bring your own tent, which you can set up at the campsite.

The ranger’s hut, which serves as both the camp’s administrative hub and the location of most formalities, is the only semi-permanent building.

Recently, a cabin that used to be the ranger’s quarters was transformed.

The cabin is made of wood. Instead of toilets, you will find pit latrines here, which are safe to use even if they are not like the toilets you are accustomed to in Europe.

Location

Situated in the Kilimanjaro’s woodland vegetation zone, it is the final destination as you descend the mountain via the Mweka path.

Thus, it is surrounded by a thick forest. Because of this, it’s more awesome than the camp you came from before.

It rains a lot in the camp. Any time of day or year, you should be prepared for such an event. The trip from the Camp to Mweka’s departure gate takes roughly three hours.

Millenium Camp to Mweka Gate

It is the last one before you reach the gate as you descent. It is approximately about 12 kilometers from the camp to the gate as you exit to the Mweka gate.

Mweka gate to Moshi Town

After you have done you hiking, the next best location is the ton of Moshi. The distance between the Gate of Mweka to the Town of Moshi is about 24 kilometers. The roads are smoth since they have less traffic.
