Simba Camp on Kilimanjaro – Your First Stop on the Rongai Route

The first camp you will encounter when hiking Kilimanjaro via the Rongai path is the Simba Camp, which is situated at an elevation of roughly 2671 meters above sea level.

It is situated on Kilimanjaro’s northeast face. This camp is tiny, just like the majority of camps on the Rongai trial.

This camp is somewhat deserted because, like most northern routes, the Rongai route sees minimal hiker traffic from tourists.

To stay at this camp, like with all the others on Kilimanjaro, you must make reservations through the travel agency handling your vacation.

The camp is located on the Rongai route, directly beyond Kilimanjaro’s base.

This camp offers stunning views of the plains and is located on the border between Kenya and Tanzania.

There are no enduring structures at the camp. Thus, don’t anticipate to discover huts or cabins here.

Here, there is only one permanent building, which serves as both the administration offices and the ranger’s hut.

The camp uses pit latrines instead of toilets. They are known as “dry toilets” by some. Both clean and secure.

If you decide not to stay the night and instead use the camp for a picnic lunch, you can continue on this Kilimanjaro path to the Kikelelwa Camp.

Location of Simba campsite

The camp is north east of the Kilimanjaro on the Rongai route which is near the Kenya Tanzania Boarder. The camp is at an elevation of about 2671 meters above sea level and it is the first camp from the base on this Rongai trail.

It is about 8 kilometers to the second cave campsite. This journey is about 3 hours.

Simba Camp Vegetation Zone

The camp is located in Kilimanjaro’s heath or moorland vegetation zone. The heath and moorland vegetation zone will greet you after you have passed through the forest.

Tall grass and enormous heathers make up this area. Unlike the last part, though, you will be exposed to more breezes in this one.

This region experiences extremely low nighttime temperatures and scorching daytime temps. In comparison to the wooded zone, the tails here are a little bit drier because of the increased sunshine.

Because there is no canopy cover, the sun’s rays are stronger.
