School Hut Campsite on Kilimanjaro – Your Final Rest Before the Summit

The School Hut are located in the alpine region of the Kibo peak which is the tallest peak of the Kilimanjaro. They are usually used by the trekker of the Kilimanjaro using the northern routes.

These school huts are the last housing before making the last attempt to reach the summit of the Kilimanjaro.

The huts camp is located at an elevation of about 4,710 meters above sea level. The more direct route to this camp is the Rongai Trail, although most of the northern circuit routes can stay here the last night before the hike to the summit.

However, the northern routes are more longer than the southern circuit’s, and as a result, this camp is not frequently visited because people prefer the southern trails.

On the other hand, because there is less traffic, it is a very tranquil place. The campsite is very compact.

The sole restrooms at this underdeveloped school camp are pit latrines. For lodging, you will need to provide your own tent. This area has rainwater collected when it rains.

You may need to carry water in-case it’s a dry season.

Location

The camp is situated in Kilimanjaro’s Alpine vegetation zone. It is near the Kibo Huts by a few kilometers, and the Reusch Crater lies to the east of it.

This camp is surrounded by no vegetation, and the oxygen content is low. Not many animals can survive here, so you won’t have to worry about insects and mosquitoes.

Third Cave to The School Hut

You will hike to the school huts camp on the seventh day if you are using the northern circuit routes. It takes about 5 hours from the third cave which is at an elevation of about 3,870 meters above sea level to the school huts camp which are at elevation of about 4,750 meters.

Journey from School Huts Camp to Uhuru Peak

At approximately midnight, you will leave the school hurt camp and start your ascent to the mountain. so that you can summit by daybreak.

From the school huts, which are located at an elevation of roughly 4,750 meters above sea level, you will trek to the peak, which is located at an elevation of roughly 5,895 meters above sea level.

Spend some time at the peak and before the sun rays become too hot. You will descent via the Mweka camp which is at an elevation of about 3,110 meters above sea level.

In this entire last day to the summit adventure, the walk to the rim of the crater heading to the Gillman’s point. The area is a bit steep but while you are descending the walk will be a bit gentler.
