This is another famous entry route of the Kilimanjaro National Park. It is allocated at the base on the southern part of the Kilimanjaro Mountain.
Just Like the other gates, the gate has park administration offices where all official park activities related to the park are done like the registration.
Everyone entering the park must register in order to maintain track of their journey and account for every life—it’s not simply a formality.
Registration and inspection procedures may include:-
- Verification of Mount Kilimanjaro entry fees
- Passport / Visa verification
- Cross-checking to prove if your mountain guide belongs to a registered tour company
- Make sure you have enough resources to support your climb and stay on the mountain such as porters, tents, food, and water
- Cross-checking itinerary for every day spent on Mount Kilimanjaro
You will not be allowed entrance if any of the aforementioned conditions are not met.
Hikers are not permitted to descend via this route; it is exclusively intended for ascents.
It will be expected of you to exit the mountain through a different gate. As a result, you must organize for the transfer of all the property you leave at the base to the location from which you will descend.
Location
This gate is located in the area of Machame which is the southern part of the Kilimanjaro Mountain. The journey to this gate is well done and this makes the drive to this gate a little more smooth compared to the Marangu gate.
The gate has fewer shops since the gate is mostly for ascending and there for the traffic is a bit low.
Vegetation Zone
Most gates to the Kilimanjaro National Park are located at the base of the mountain and therefore they are all at the edge of the Montane forest zone vegetation of the mountain.
There are a lot of trees in this area. Because it’s a tropical rain forest, they form a canopy at the top. Because of this, the area is somewhat cooler because direct sunlight cannot reach it.
The region receives a lot of rainfall practically all year round.
Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Approximately 1,640 meters are above sea level at the entrance. At 2,835 meters above sea level, or around 7 miles, the camp is located. Hiking can take up to seven hours.
Moshi Town to Machame gate
The gate is approximately 30 kilometers from the town of Moshi. It can take about 45 minutes since the road is well done.
